In August 2024, Google sent an email to users informing them of its legal obligation to disclose certain confidential information to U.S. government authorities. This comes alongside other large fines against social media companies accused of hosting content critical of the Kremlin or supportive of Ukraine. In 2008, Google announced its “project 10100”, which accepted ideas for how to help the community and then allowed Google users to vote on their favorites. The commitment will make Google “the world’s largest corporate buyer of renewable power, with commitments reaching 2.6 gigawatts (2,600 megawatts) of wind and solar energy”.
